Other NY Medical Waste Regulations
- Regulated Medical Waste Definition RMW includes infectious animal waste, human pathological waste and blood, cultures and stocks, and sharps.
- RMW Storage RMW must be removed from patient care areas within 24 hours, and from clinical laboratories within 72 hours. It must be kept in prominently labeled, leak-free containers in a sanitary, vermin- and insect-free storage area located away from pedestrian traffic.
- RMW Disposal Approved treatments include autoclaving, incineration, and alternative technologies. If accompanied by a certificate of treatment, RMW may be disposed at an authorized solid waste management facility.
- Sharps Disposal Sharps must be destroyed prior to disposal.
